Core information about

Mentalio is a system supporting diagnostic and therapeutic decisions in the area of mental health of young people, based on artificial intelligence algorithms. Its aim is to support specialists in diagnosing and planning therapy by precisely assessing the patient's mental state. This system enables a more personalized therapeutic approach, which supports the effectiveness of treatment and improves the quality of patient care.

The clinical trial is open to patients aged 13 to 21 years who are admitted to the hospital for an acute, planned, or consultation visit or are treated as outpatients, day patients, or inpatients. Participants must meet the inclusion criteria and not meet the exclusion criteria. In the case of minors, the consent of a legal guardian is required.

Using Mentalio brings a number of benefits to the patient, such as more accurate diagnosis or personalized therapeutic recommendations that allow for faster implementation of appropriate treatment. The system supports a better understanding of the essence of mental problems, which contributes to more effective therapy and improvement of the patient's quality of life and mental health.

Research on the Mentalio system is conducted by specialists from the University Hospital in Krakow. Verification of results and assessment of the system's safety is carried out by an interdisciplinary research team that supervises the clinical process and ensures compliance with applicable legal regulations and medical standards.

Kuba’s Mom

I’ve heard that you want to use an AI system to diagnose my son. Isn’t that risky? I’m worried that the computer might make a mistake and misinterpret his problems.

Psychiatrist

I understand your concerns, they are natural. However, please don’t worry — Mentalio does not replace us, the doctors. It is merely a supporting tool that analyzes the collected data and helps us better understand potential problems. The final diagnosis is always made by a specialist, not a computer. The system acts as an additional aid, allowing us to take an even closer look at the patient’s health condition, but the decisions are made by us, the doctors.

Kuba’s Mom

And what about my son’s privacy? Since it’s an application, will his data be safe?

Psychiatrist

That’s a very important question, and I’m glad you asked. I assure you that Mentalio meets all the highest security standards in compliance with European regulations. The data is fully anonymous and processed in accordance with GDPR, so your son’s privacy is well protected. Moreover, only the people directly involved in his treatment have access to this data. You don’t need to worry that this information will end up in unauthorized hands.

Kuba’s Mom

But how can I know that the system’s suggestions are accurate? Isn’t it just a computer analyzing some numbers?

Psychiatrist

Indeed, the system analyzes data, but these ‘numbers’ come from responses to specialized questions and tests that help us assess the patient’s mental state. Mentalio was developed by experts in psychiatry and psychology, who designed the algorithms to detect details that might be missed by a human. Importantly, all analysis results are thoroughly reviewed by us — the doctors — before we make any decisions. The system is only a supporting tool, not the sole source of diagnosis.

Kuba’s Mom

I understand, but isn’t technology interfering too much in our lives? I would like my son to receive a ‘human’ approach to his problems, rather than being treated as just another case analyzed by a computer.”

Psychiatrist

I agree that the most important thing is for the approach to the patient to be as human as possible. Mentalio in no way replaces that contact; on the contrary — it helps us better understand the patient’s situation, allowing us to focus on conversation, support, and building a relationship. The system merely facilitates identifying important aspects, which enables us to tailor the therapy even better to your son’s individual needs.

Kuba’s Mom

What if Mentalio indicates something serious? Won’t it cause additional stress for my son, knowing that a computer is ‘diagnosing’ him?

Psychiatrist

I understand that the very thought of a diagnosis can cause anxiety and stress, especially when technology is involved. However, please don’t worry — Mentalio is a tool that supports us in assessing the situation, but it is we who talk to the patient and explain the results. We always do this with great sensitivity and respect, adapting to the patient’s needs to minimize stress. The goal is to help and better understand the problems, not to create additional anxiety. Everything is discussed in a clear and supportive manner.

Kuba’s Mom

Alright, I’m glad to hear that everything works this way. I hope it will help my son. And how long does it take to get the results from this system?

Psychiatrist

Mentalio usually analyzes data quite quickly. The results and suggestions appear shortly after the tests and surveys are completed, which allows us to respond promptly and start appropriate treatment. The waiting time is significantly shorter compared to traditional diagnostic methods.

Kuba’s Mom

All of this sounds convincing. I want my son to have the best possible care, so I’m glad you’re trying new methods.

Psychiatrist

I’m very glad that I was able to address your concerns. We are committed to providing your son with the best possible care, and I believe that Mentalio can help in this, just as it helps many other young people in similar situations.
